"There's not much doubt in any of our minds that no complete idea springs fully formed from our brow,
needing only a handshake and a signature on the contract to send it off into the world to make twenty-five billion dollars.
The germ of the idea grows slowly..." - Walt Kelly

Neighborhood pine

NaPoWriMo Day Nine

There is
an offhandedness
to this death,
because
we know it is
temporary.

I am not
unaffected,
but a few spent
needles
is of little worry -
I persist.

All winter
they freeze
and harden,
retreat
within themselves
until spring.

I watch
their solitude,
planted in
neat rows
as if beauty
never
came naturally.
